Dame Darcey Bussell
One of Britain’s most famous ballerinas, Dame Darcey Bussell performed with the Royal Ballet for nearly twenty years until her retirement in 2007 with a performance in Kenneth MacMillan’s Song of the Earth which received a standing ovation lasting over eight minutes.
She performed more than 80 different roles including Masha in Winter Dreams, Princes Rose in The Prince of the Pagodas, Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty and Odette/Odile in Swan Lake.
Darcey came out of retirement in 2012 to perform in the Spirit of the Flame at the London Olympics closing ceremony, leading a troupe of 200 dancers.
She’s gone onto a successful presenting career and is of course now best known as a resident judge on Strictly Come Dancing.
One of our regular supporters, this year Darcey has donated a pair of pink high heels in a size 39, designed by Kurt Geiger.
